
Cross Country Season Recap, Region XII Tournament Preview
The cross country teams each wrapped up their seasons at the Jayhawk Collegiate Invitational on October 12th. Below is a recap from each tournament of the regular season:
Skippers Invite
The Lakers raced at Goodells County Park hosted by Saint Clair County Community College. The men ran in a conference wide 8,000 meter race. The Lakers had a quality showing. On the men's side, Drew Moore led the team with a time of 30:02 which was good for 24th place out of a field of 122 runners. Mason Cross was the second runner for the Lakers to cross the finish line, finishing 32nd with a time of 30:24:4. Joshua Warner rounded things out for the Lakers with a time of 38:43.
On the women's side, Natalie Lemert finished in 48th place out of a field of 113 with a time of 24:44 in a 5,000 meter race. Josephine Gorcyca ran a time of 28:41 to round things out for the Lady Lakers.
Northwood Invite
The men ran at Northwood University on the Fisher Trails in a 6,000 meter race. There was a field of 126 runners in this race, and Drew Moore paced the Lakers with a time of 19:47 which was good for 39th place. Mason Cross was the second Laker to cross the finish line. Cross ran a time of 20:37 good for 68th place. Joshua Warner was the third Laker to finish the race with a time of 26:49.
For the women's side of the event, Natalie Lemert led the Lakers with a time of 22:44 which was good for 76th place in the event. Josephine Gorcyca finished the race with a time of 26:27
Northern Conference Meet - Muskegon
The Northern Conference event was ran at Muskegon Community College. Drew Moore not only paced the team, but won the event with a time of 28:00:09 out of a field of 39 runners. Mason Cross was the second Laker to cross the finish line with a time of 28:24:62 good for a fourth place finish. This event was where the runners earned All-Conference honors. Both Moore and Cross earned All-Conference honors, including Moore being named the MCCAA Northern Conference Runner of the Year.
Natalie Lemert paced the Lakers on the women's side. Lemert finished with a time of 22:39:14 which was good for 11th place out of a field of 30 runners. Josephine Gorcyca ran a time of 27:04 for the Lakers.
Muskegon Jayhawk Collegiate Invitational
The final event of the regular season was ran at Muskegon Community College. This event consisted of both junior colleges, as well as was open to universities. Drew Moore paced the Lakers in the men's 8,000 meter race, finishing 11th out of a field of 184 runners. Mason Cross was the second Laker to cross the finish line, finishing with a time of 26:35 which was good for 36th place.
Natalie Lemert paced the women's team for the Lakers, finishing with a time of 22:01 in the women's 5,000 meter race. Josephine Gorcyca ran a time of 24:31 to round things out for the women's team.
Region XII Tournament Preview
The Lakers will run the Region XII Tournament race at Goodells County Park, where they opened up the regular season. The Regional Tournament will be ran on Friday, October 25th beginning at 1:00 PM. Since the regular season opener, the Lakers have tremendously improved, and will look to continue their strong season at the Region XII Tournament, in hopes to send some runners to the NJCAA National Tournament.
