Baseball Earns Win at SC4

PORT HURON, Mich. – After taking three of four from Alpena this past weekend in conference play, the Mid Michigan College baseball team (23-14, 14-7 MCCAA North) earned a wild 14-12 non-conference victory over SC4 (3-28) on Monday afternoon in a nine inning contest.

The Lakers got on the board in the top of the first with a two-run home run by Brennan Hallman. SC4 tied things at 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning following a two-run blast of their own.

Both sides then traded runs the rest of the way. Mid highlights included an RBI double by Isiah Stoy scoring Caleb Thomas in the top of the eighth inning, followed by a two-run home run by Jayden Clark bringing Stoy home.

The host Skippers tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Thomas slammed the door shut on the mound and gave the Lakers the victory.

Thomas earned the first win of his college career on the mound, pitching the final two innings and striking out four batters. Kale Koin got the start for Mid and pitched 2.2 innings with one strikeout, while Eddie McDonald relieved Koin and pitched 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.

Other players who recorded an RBI for the Lakers included Dillon Croff, Justin Esch, and Amir Orr

Mid will now get ready for the final MCCAA North series of the regular season by hosting Bay College. The Lakers will play the Norse in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 PM, before concluding the series with another doubleheader Sunday at 1:00 PM. All games will be played at Mount Pleasant High School.
