MBB Preview: Muskegon and Bay

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The No. 19 Mid Michigan College men's basketball team (15-3, 5-0 MCCAA North) will look to continue their winning streak this week, hosting Muskegon on Wednesday at 7:30 PM, before closing the week against Bay College on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Both games will be at Morey Courts. 

SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS: MCC is 10-8 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Jayhawks earned a 61-56 victory at North Central Michigan last Saturday. Kevon Washington leads the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game, while Will Chye is close behind with 14.6 per contest. Ny'Zhem Marshall is the leading rebounder with 8.9 per game. Marshall led the Jayhawks against the Timberwolves last Saturday with 19 points and 13 rebounds. 

SCOUTING THE NORSE: Always a throne in the Lakers side, the Norse enter this week 15-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, with their lone MCCAA North loss coming against Montcalm on Jan. 11. Most recently Bay earned a 118-96 victory at Delta on Saturday afternoon. Joe Ofori leads the way for the Norse with 16.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Mykel Lindsey shoots a team best 56.4% from the field while Connor Coduti shoots a team high 47.8 % from three-point range. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: At Alpena, James Wright scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Amonti Greene added 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. De'Antre Griffin and Joe Iung scored 11 points each while Vynce Overshown added 12 off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 33-of-70 (47.1%) from the field and 11-of-39 (28.2%) from three-point range. Mid was also 19-of-21 (90.5%) from the free throw line. 

UP NEXT: After this week, Mid will travel to Montcalm on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at 7:30 PM. Following that contest the Lakers will host North Central Michigan at 3:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 8) from Mount Pleasant High School.
