MBB Preview: Delta and ACC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – After rolling to their 11th straight victory on Saturday at Kirtland, the No. 23 Mid Michigan College men's basketball team (14-3, 3-0 MCCAA North) will play a pair of conference games this week. The Lakers will host Delta on Wednesday (Jan. 22) at 7:30 PM from Morey Courts, before traveling to Alpena to take on the Lumberjacks at 3:00 PM Saturday (Jan. 25).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS: Delta enters Wednesday night with a 6-10 overall record and 1-2 mark in conference play. The Pioneers earned a 85-65 victory over North Central Michigan last Saturday led by Jayden Hackett's 28 points and nine rebounds. Hackett is the team's leading scorer with 15.1 points per contest. Willie Humphrey is the leading rebounder with 105 overall this season and 6.3 per game. Evan Booker has a team best 35 steals. 

SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS: Alpena is 1-11 overall and 0-3 in Northern Conference action. The Lumberjacks suffered a 77-50 defeat at Montcalm on Saturday. Their only win came on opening weekend against Minnesota North College-Hibbing. Derian Williams is the leading scorer for ACC with 14.8 points per game, while Chas Stanek is averaging 12.3 PPG. Stanek also leads the Lumberjacks in rebounding with 5.9 per contest, while Nick Fileccia is close behind with 5.8 rebounds per game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: James Wright continues to lead the Lakers with 21.2 PPG and 9.6 rebounds per contest. De'Antre Griffin is posting 17.9 points per contest. Amonti Greene averages 12 points and 4.1 assists per game. Mid as a team is averaging 95.1 points per game and had their second highest point total of the season (125) in Saturday's win at Kirtland. For his efforts last week, Greene was named MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week. 

UP NEXT: Following this week's slate of games, Mid will return home to Morey Courts. They'll host Muskegon at 7:30 PM Wednesday (Jan. 29), then remain home to take on Bay College at 3:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 1).
