WBB Preview: Montcalm and NCMC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The No. 6 Mid Michigan College women's basketball team (19-2, 7-0 MCCAA North) will open the second half of conference play this week. The Lakers will travel to Montcalm on Wednesday (Feb. 5) for a 5:30 PM tip, before hosting North Central Michigan at 1:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 8) at Morey Courts. 

SCOUTING MONTCALM: The Centurions are 3-12 overall and 2-4 in Northern Conference action. Montcalm was defeated by NCMC 75-64 last Saturday. They were led by Makenna Rautio with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Emily Putnam had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Madi Longoria posted 10 points, four assists, and four steals in the loss. The Lakers and Centurions first met on January 15th, with Mid rolling to a 116-34 victory. 

SCOUTING NCMC: The Timberwolves enter the week 3-18 overall and 2-5 in league play. Against Montcalm Maziah Shelton led the way with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Ceara LeBlanc added 19 points, while Camille Wardin posted 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Against Mid on January 11th, the Timberwolves fell 135-44. NCMC will host Bay College on Wednesday to open the week. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: All five starters reached double figures for the Lakers in the first meeting against NCMC. Paige Ebels led with 18 points, Chloe Watson had 17, Rachel Resio chipped in 16 points along with 10 rebounds, while Addysen Gray and Jiaryatou Cisse each had 11 points. Off the bench, Alexus Dunn had a big game with 17 points, while Grace Chinavare added 10. Against Montcalm on January 15th, Watson led Mid with 24 points, while Delaney Seaman posted 23. 

UP NEXT: Following this week, Mid will travel to Delta on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 5:30 PM. They'll then return home to host Kirtland at 1:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 15) at Mt. Pleasant High School.
