Women's Basketball Defeated at Bay

ESCANABA, Mich. – No. 11 Mid Michigan College women's basketball closed the regular season on Tuesday night in the Upper Peninsula, falling 71-64 to host Bay College.

The Lakers (24-4, 12-2 MCCAA North) were led by Chloe Watson, as she scored 20 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and dished out three assists. Paige Ebels posted 12 points, while Rachel Resio added 10.

Anna Axtell led the Norse (19-9, 12-2 MCCAA North) with a game high 23 points.

Mid still clinched the MCCAA Northern Conference regular season title on Tuesday evening, by virtue of holding the tiebreaker over Bay and Muskegon. The Lakers, Norse, and Jayhawks next common opponent was Jackson, and while the Lakers defeated the Jets on Dec. 4th, the Norse and Jayhawks did not beat Jackson, thus giving Mid the tiebreaker.

With their third regular season conference title in a row, Mid has also earned a berth into the MCCAA Semifinals as well as the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes District C Tournament.

The Lakers will begin their postseason journey on Friday (Feb. 28) night at Lansing Community College. They'll take on Jackson at 5:30 PM with the winner facing the host Stars on Saturday (Mar. 1) at 1:00 PM. Saturday's game is for the MCCAA State Championship.
